AstraZeneca, Ericsson, Saab, SEB, and Wallenberg Investments launch the company Sferical AI

AstraZeneca, Ericsson, Saab, SEB, and Wallenberg Investments are jointly launching the company Sferical AI, which will operate a new sovereign AI supercomputer to transform and prepare the country’s leading industries for the age of AI.

This marks the next phase of the Swedish business collaboration announced by Marcus Wallenberg and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang in May, when Huang was awarded an honorary doctorate by Linköping University.

Sferical AI aims to strengthen the competitiveness of Swedish industry by offering participating companies world-leading computing power for AI in an integrated, sovereign and secure infrastructure.

“Through this initiative, we create the opportunity for some of Sweden’s leading companies to position themselves at the forefront of the rapid structural transformation of the business landscape brought about by the development and use of AI,” says Marcus Wallenberg, Chairman of Wallenberg Investments.

The AI system, which is intended to be located in Linköping, will be based on two NVIDIA DGX SuperPODs featuring the latest generation of NVIDIA DGX GB300 systems. In total, there are 1,152 tightly interconnected advanced GPUs enabling fast training and deployment of large and complex AI models.

In parallel with the launch of the new company, work will begin on establishing an NVIDIA AI Technology Centre in Sweden. The centre will work with the participating companies to tailor the company's AI systems and develop new applications. In the long term, the centre will also support the broader Swedish business community with skills enhancement initiatives such as NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute training.

Jenny Nordlöw assumes the role of CEO, and Anders Ynnerman is appointed Executive Chairman of Sferical AI.

“This initiative demonstrates the Swedish ability to collaborate on important issues. We will be able to leverage the combined expertise of the participating companies and we already see how the exchange between very different companies creates significant added value,” says Anders Ynnerman.

“I am humbled by the task of leading Sferical AI and look forward to, together with our partners, establishing the next generation of AI infrastructure in Sweden and strengthening the competitiveness of Swedish industry,” says Jenny Nordlöw.
