About this Privacy Policy

WIAB protects your personal privacy. This Privacy Policy describes certain personal data processing where WIAB processes personal data for its own account, including purposes for which personal data are processed, what personal data are collected and the measures that WIAB takes to protect personal data.

This is a general Privacy Policy. For specific activities and processing of personal data, this Privacy Policy may be supplemented by additional policies or privacy notices. How WIAB, as a data controller, uses personal data

WIAB collects and processes personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and other applicable legislation for the protection of privacy. “Personal data” means data that can be used to identify a natural person who is alive.

In contacts with WIAB, you may provide WIAB with information about yourself or personal information that WIAB asks you to give. This applies, for example, when WIAB should inform you and answer questions about its activities. The information that is provided or collected may refer to your name, title, postal address, email address, telephone number, and other information that you choose to provide.

As a data controller, WIAB processes personal data for the following purposes:

  • To be able to provide service and respond to inquiries regarding WIAB’s activities, and to manage WIAB’s relationship with you and the organization you represent.

  • For internal administration purposes, internal statistics, and to evaluate, develop and improve WIAB’s operations.

  • To provide information about WIAB’s activities and activities to those who have shown interest.

  • To allow WIAB to fulfil legal obligations under applicable laws, regulations or government decisions.

WIAB processes personal data only if there is a legal basis for handling it. The processing of personal data is based on a legitimate interest in cases where WIAB processes personal data to give you information, provide service and respond to your requests about WIAB’s operations, as well as for purposes related to administration and to evaluate, develop and improve WIAB’s operations. This includes actions taken by WIAB regarding troubleshooting, protection, testing and improvement of systems used by WIAB in its operations.

When personal data are processed to fulfil obligations under applicable laws, regulations and government decisions – for example, under Sweden’s Accounting Act (1999:1078) – the legal obligation is the legal basis for the processing of the data.

If you have given consent to certain processing of your personal data, the consent is a legal basis for that processing. Consent may be withdrawn at any time.

WIAB only saves your personal data only for as long as it is required for the purpose of processing the data. Personal data is culled or anonymized when it is no longer relevant for purposes for which it has been collected.

In addition to the above stated purposes of WIAB’s personal data processing, the Foundation for Economic History Research within Banking and Enterprise – in accordance with its statutes to promote scientific research – archives certain documents from WIAB’s activities for archiving and research purposes, such as accounting documents, meeting minutes, annual reports and printed matter. Documents transferred by WIAB to the Foundation for Economic History Research within Banking and Enterprise for archival and research purposes are only transferred for this purpose. When personal data are processed at the Foundation for Economic History Research within Banking and Enterprise for archival and research purposes, the processing is carried out on the basis of performing a task of general interest and that purpose is consistent with the original purposes of collecting the personal data. The Foundation for Economic History Research within Banking and Enterprise takes appropriate protective measures to ensure that the principle of data minimization is especially respected.

Disclosure of personal data

Within the framework of WIAB’s activities, and in order to achieve the above-mentioned purposes of data processing, WIAB may, in accordance with applicable legislation, share personal data with others with whom WIAB cooperates, such as the Wallenberg Foundations.

In some cases, personal data collected by WIAB may be transferred to countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA). In this case, such transfer shall be carried out in accordance with the legislation in force and require that the country concerned has an adequate level of data protection, or that there are other sufficient safeguard measures to ensure that the transfer is lawful.

Personal data may also be disclosed to authorities in accordance with applicable legislation.

Security

WIAB takes the necessary and reasonable technical and organizational security measures to protect personal data from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. This means that WIAB, in its personal data processing activities, applies various physical and technical limitations and restrictions on access to personal data, including through technical authorization and access control systems, the use of firewalls, virus protection, backup systems and other network security, and the possibility of security measures such as encryption and de-identification of personal data where appropriate. If WIAB hires a third-party partner to support WIAB’s operations, WIAB ensures that the party applies the corresponding technical and organizational security measures and only processes personal data in the manner approved by WIAB.
